Attention: High School Students…

POETRY OUT LOUD is a National Poetry Recitation Competition by the NEA and The Poetry Foundation, presented in partnership with the California Arts Council and the Ventura County Arts Council. It’s powerful, it’s fun and there is no fee to participate. The National Winner takes home a $20,000 Scholarship.

Where Slam Poetry, Spoken Word, and Theater meet the English class.

The Process.

1) Select Your Poems at www.poetryoutloud.org (choose *two or three poems)

2) Memorize one or more Poems *(one poem per student is required at the School Competition; two poems per student at the County level).

3) Compete On-Campus at your high school in early January 2010. One Winner from each school goes on to the Regional (Ventura County) Competition in February 2010.

-Each school’s one POL Winner will represent their school at the Regional Competition in February 2010 (held in Ventura County). -The State Competition will be held in Sacramento, CA in March 2010. -The National Finals will be held in Washington, D.C. in April 2010.  *-Three poems will be required at the State and National levels. –Two Poems will be required at the County level. -Your two initial poems must include one poem of 25 lines or less, and one poem written prior to the 20th century (one poem may fulfill both of these requirements).
